3 in 1
Epaderm Ointment is an emollient which can be used in 3 different ways:
- Direct to the skin,
- In the bath
- As a skin cleanser.
Watch our quick video for top tips on how to use as well as the recommended amount to use depending on the area of the body.
Direct to Skin
Epaderm Ointment provides a barrier to help soothe the skin. Emollients are not steroids so you can use as much as you need. It should be applied generously and frequently even when the skin has improved.
Directions: apply Epaderm Ointment directly on the skin in the direction of hair growth. This will reduce the risk of blocking hair follicles.
As a Substitute for Soap
Using Epaderm as a skin cleaner helps ensure that dry skin can be properly washed without losing additional moisture, or having to deal with the problems that common soap additives might produce.
Directions: scoop a small amount from the tub, lather under warm water and then use as a normal soap.
Soaking the skin in an emollient for optimum rehydration is another key step of complete emollient therapy. When using Epaderm as a bath additive, care should be taken, as it will make the surface of the bath slippery.
Directions: take 4g (about the size of a two pound coin) from the tub. Melt this in a tumbler of hot water, ensuring it has cooled sufficiently before adding to the bath. Do not apply hot water directly to the skin.
How Much to Use
A measure of Epaderm Ointment is around 4g - which is around the size of a £2 coin or a teaspoon full
It is important to note that there is no limit to how much Epaderm you can use. The below is a guide and will vary based on body size and dryness of skin. We recommend to start with a smaller amount and build up to what is right for you and your skin.
Face, Ears, Neck 1/2 - 1 measure twice a day
Arms 1 - 2 measure twice a day
Back 1 - 2 measure twice a day
Torso 1 - 2 measure twice a day
Legs 3 - 4 measure twice a day
Hands 1/4 - 1/2 measure twice a day
For children under ten years of age we would recommend half the above amounts
Atopic eczema tends to run in families, so if one or both parents have eczema, it is more likely that their children will develop it too, but eczema sufferer Jessica said no one else in her family has it.
